Drama unfolded at a funeral in Cheuka Village under Chief Chikwaka in Goromonzi(Mashonaland East)when mourners witnessed a shocking act of violence over a mere plate of sadza.

A 68-year-old woman, Mai Marshel Ngoshi is said to have assaulted her husband’s younger brother, Ngonidzashe Ngoshi, after a heated altercation which turned violent .The mishap left the latter unconscious.

The shocking incident took place at funeral 2 weeks ago.According to eyewitnesses, the commotion began when Ngonidzashe returned from the gravesite — where he had helped prepare the deceased Pelagia Ngoshi’s final resting place — and requested for a plate of sadza.

Mai Marshel reportedly accused him of double dealing by attempting to eat for the second time. Harsh words were exchanged before the situation escalated into violence. In full view of other mourners, Mai Marshel attacked her brother-in-law in an unconventional way. Ngonidzashe fell and was unconscious for some time. When he eventually regained consciousness he reportedly attempted to retaliate, but was refrained by other mourners.

A close family member, who requested anonymity, said:
“Mai Marshel viciously attacked him in front of everyone. Imagine pulling down a grown man’s trousers and grabbing his privates at a funeral. It was shocking, especially from someone her age. If not for divine intervention, we could have been talking about a death.”

In a twist, Mai Marshel reportedly tried to deflect blame by reporting Ngonidzashe to a village police officer who was among the mourners.

Another relative who visited Ngonidzashe days later expressed concern about his deteriorating health, allegedly due to the injuries sustained during the attack.
