DRUNKARD CAUSES SCENE OVER DOLLAR

Riverside, Mubvinzi(Mashonaland East) – A dramatic scene unfolded at Riverside Business Centre on the evening of 1 November 2025 when a well-known drunkard, Masere, sparked commotion after demanding change from a beer purchase despite owing the bar owner.
The incident occurred at Mai Juju’s bar, a popular local hangout spot. According to eyewitnesses, Masere bought a bottle of Nyathi beer, priced at $1, and paid with a $2 note. However, instead of receiving his $1 change, Mai Juju reminded him of an outstanding debt from previous drinking sprees and withheld the change to cover it.
This did not sit well with the visibly intoxicated Masere, who reacted by grabbing Mai Juju by the collar, shouting obscenities and demanding his money back. In a swift response, Mai Juju landed two loud claps on Masere’s head, stunning both him and other patrons.
Regular customers including Mike and Peter Nheya quickly intervened, separating the two before the altercation could escalate further. The situation cooled down after other drinkers helped Masere to a bench and offered him water.
Locals described the incident as yet another episode in Masere’s long history of barroom trouble.
“Every time he drinks, there’s drama. But this time he went too far laying hands on a woman,” said Clemence, a concerned patron.
No police report was filed, but residents have urged Mai Juju to consider banning habitual troublemakers from the bar to maintain peace.
